26 Jan - powder

We are about to hit 200cm snow depth at 800m towards the Tsugaike end of the valley. This season's snow depth is ahead of previous seasons, though only thanks to the storm that just arrived. Lots of colder powder today. Nothing direct to report as I didn't bother with the backcountry given that it is a Saturday and most areas suitable for easy touring in the deep snow would be busy. And I am busy. And storm days are sometimes rest days for the busy backcountry skier. Please take note of the current avalanche bulletin for Hakuba, with suddenly much higher avalanche danger and clearing weather for Sunday, it is worth thinking about your terrain choice a lot harder than you may have in recent weeks. It is no time to hit big steep terrain. www.nadare.jp/alert/index.html
