27 Dec 2011 - aaar!! lifts!
A group of local Japanese guides, bc skiers and mavens were meeting at Cortina today for the very first lift and I was asked along. The free ticket and fact that they were mostly female helped me to get over my dislike of ski resorts. We skied pretty good powder and had plenty of fun. It was also a good chance to get some quick vertical under my new skis which in the backcountry would have taken weeks. Another plug for DPS Wailer 112's as an incredible ski. They rail-carve on hard and float in powder. True do it all skis. Mio is also starting to excel after only one season. She has a new pair of quite stiff high end (orange!) boots and puts plenty of on-piste skiers with far more seasons and expensive lessons to shame. Now it is time to get her off the silly carving skis with so much sidecut and such narrow waists. Horrible things, they are. I joined her on-piste to finish the morning, then we got out of there. Back to the backcountry tomorrow.
