28 Jan - Hero Powder

North aspect protected from wind have very good snow on them. I was even getting occasional faceshots. There is a lot of good snow, but finding terrain that works well for touring and it not steep and broken is a bit of a challenge. Actually, that isn't true, you just have to walk a bit further, or be happy with shorter shots for less effort. Today the climb was from 400m to 1400m. There were other zones with better access, but the need to explore dominates. Windslab forming on ridgelines, especially east aspects. Very good skiing below treeline in the shade away from the wind. I skied a 400m 40 degree supported and anchored north aspect and felt good on it. Note the keywords: supported and anchored.
