29 Nov 2011 - Season Starter

A late start to my local season since missing the first skiable day on Daisekkei back on the 17th, then going to Canada. At last I opened the Hakuba season today after driving to 1200m on the Happo cat tracks where I hit the snowline, followed by a 1200m hike up to Mumezawa for some nice north facing soft dry snow. Five hour round trip.

At 2200m the snow depth is about 130cm. I saw several Size 1 loose snow avalanches on solar aspects- to be expected as the recent snow has become very moist and weak under intense sun today.

At least you had the right idea driving, i slogged up the bottom of 47 to the top of the quad a few weeks ago, i could only skin from about half way up the home run, took me about 1 1/2 hours!!

Always find a way to drive to the snowline :)
