8 Dec 2011 - Small Storm
At last the first wintery storm has landed in the valley. Only 6cm accumulated in the last 24, all falling overnight with blustery light to moderate winds from the north at VB. We have a long way to go - the 300cm snow depth pole is in place, with grass yet to be squashed. Compare with later in the season.
I am itching to get up high and check out the situation with the 20111208 rain crust.
In the meantime I have a few discount AST Level 1 avalanche courses before xmas for those who are working in Hakuba for the season and would like to complete their training before the tourist season gets busy. See www.avalancheschoolhakuba.com for details.
