9 Feb - deeper powder

Same place as yesterday, powder, deeper, particularly into the later afternoon as it started to snow at 2-3cm per hour. Near ridges at 1400m we had 30cm of wind effected, thou still mostly consistent and soft. Once you dropped of small ridge areas, it deepened again and there were face shots and all the good stuff that comes with skiing powder in fun terrain after a long walk into and up the zone (which is a little ay down valley from Hakuba). At 900m there was 55cm storm snow. The crust is freezing harder and possibly less stable- based only on small ski cuts that produced more sluffing than the previous day in the same place. We skied 25-30 degree terrain with sections of 35 and felt good stability below tree line on north aspects. However there was evidence of wind, and some slabby feeling harder snow along exposed areas. I am cautious about tree line, particularly considering credible reports of faceting being found at the recent rain crust at 1700m in the southern end of the valley.
