Camping and Korenge Ridge 2600m

14 March 08

Another camping trip, the second this week.  Corey and I visited my base camp cache and enjoyed without doubt the most calm windless conditions I have seen in Hakuba since arriving in November.  We used the second day for the trip to at last reach the ridge leading to Korenge San (2700m).  Our highest point was 2600m and we decided to be content with that since any attempt at riding the Y-Couloir from the summit would have taken us into very unstable hot weather snowpack on a south aspect as we reached the end of the descent.  So we instead took a curving line via a long gully with a roughly easterly aspect, though the skiers right of the snaking gully had a touch of NE sun shading.  The total descent was 700m vertical, followed by the usual side country line back to the resort facility and valley.
