20100329 weather data for the 24 hours to 5.30am at 800m

Previous Day Field Observations:

Yet another day of memorable backcountry powder in Hakuba. It had started to settle and become denser, but still fun and deep above 2000m. The bond with the crust below improved a bit as well. We saw several people ride some very steep terrain with only one sluff avalanche.

Stability is worse again today with another 17cm in the valley and anywhere between 30-50cm above treeline (depending on where you are in the valley). Incredibly good powder skiing.

But if there are areas of poor bond with the crust then keep in mind that it had now been loaded with even more snow and so an avalanche is more likely to be triggered by the weight of a skier, and that avalanche will be a lot bigger. Choose terrain carefully.

This is not an avalanche bulletin, just some of my observations and thoughts on my mind. Go out there and make your own observations and your own decisions.
