Korenge Ridge
16 Dec 08

Toured to the top of the Korenege ridge in Hakuba backcountry today reached 2600m. Went with Eric (pictured above), Obi and Mick. The weather was perfect and the snow soft deep and cold in the shade. I had my first long soft snow/powder descent on skis rather than a snowboard. It went ok. Best day of the season so far.

Sweet!
Wow, beautiful snow & sky.... I came off Utsugi-dake in the storm on Sunday, looks like it left good powder all over the Alps.
Rematch
Yes, I read on your blog - good on you for getting it done second time around and the following weekend, no less. There is little better than a good objective and good snow to get there on. So much it can change in a short period.
A friend and I had planned an overnight trip to Yukikura Dake roughly behind Shirouma in Hakuba. Yukikura isn't a great peak, just good skiing. There is a luxury emergency all-year hut in the col on approach and you can can take in Shirouma's summit on the way to the hut with a few hours detour. Sadly the wind in the 48 hours before departure resulted in a canceled trip - Yukikura is very exposed to wind and prone to a lot of windslab - making some of the approach a hassle and ruling out a lot of the intended descent. Or not. We will never know if the decision was right or wrong.

Thank you! Looks like
Thank you! Looks like Kashmir format, and with English along side Kanji for most peak names.
