Still powder on Happo

Plenty of good snow above 2000m on north aspects. We (new local friend Eric and myself and also with Obi and Sarah from HH) have returned to the Mumezawa area on Happo, 2300m, a few times in the last week or so and it doesn't disappoint. I have been skiing rather than snowboarding this season. Lets see how that goes - a lot of learning to do.

BC Demo Gear Advice?
I'm going to be skiing with friends in Hakuba on the 29th-31st of December. We're planning to visit Happo and Goryu. The pictures in this thread make me want to get out in the BC, but since I'll be coming from the US I'm not bringing any BC specific gear. Do you know if any of the shops demo BC gear? I'm mostly thinking along the lines of avalanche gear (beacons, shovels, probes, avalung, etc...). Have any advice?

Hi Tim, head to Rapies Mountain Store and Matsumoto-san will be able to help you out. It is on the main road (148) heading south, right hand side just after Jusco supermarket, a km or two from the station. Everyone in town knows where it is. Ask where you are staying. Have fun.
