Tenki Diary 19 Dec 07

Weather for 24 hours to 7am on Wednesday morning: another 33cm of snow, still falling very lightly, but the storm appears to have abated. Total for this quick 24 hour storm was 48cm at 860m asl.

Yesterday the wind was moderate from the east. By the afternoon I was seeing a lot of small soft-slab natural releases on convex rolls under the Goryu chairlift. Crown walls were about 30cm, slope angles on the sliding surface 30-40 degrees (I didn’t inspect them up close).  Due to conditions I have not dug a snow profile since last Friday.

A rather nasty looking warm spike is forecast for the weekend. Rain in the valley and warm higher up.

"small soft-slab natural releases on convex rolls"

Sounds like a description for the after effects of eating too much katsu kare.

Why but that is exactly what I was talking about.
